Subthirtyfive is an exclusive club for up-and-coming wealth managers. Founded in 2018, in partnership with Baillie Gifford, Janus Henderson and Winterflood, it helps young professional investment and wealth managers to develop their knowledge of investment trusts. It provides them with an opportunity to join a growing community of like-minded people and to learn from industry experts. All events are structured learning events and attendees can use them as CPD accreditations.

Subthirtyfive approached Bombora to help them devise a solution that would enable them to reach their target audience through live and online events.

What we did 

In conjunction with Janus Henderson, Bailie Gifford and Winterflood,  Bombora worked on producing video content at the live events in 2018 and 2019. These included breakfast and evening events in London and Edinburgh, with fund manager talks on investment and stock picking strategies. 

Since the pandemic, Bombora has helped Subthirtyfive transition into a complete digital service. They have created an online platform for their upcoming events with interactive features to appeal to the largely home-working audience. The digital site, Subthirtyfive, now has a variety of educational content, in the form of on-demand event videos, blogs and additional content. Investment professionals can sign up to become members and gain access to exclusive educational content on investment trusts. 

The most recent webinar event took place in June 2021. Introduced and hosted by the Head of Investment Trust at Winterflood Securities, it featured two of the industry’s leading equity income investment managers from Baillie Gifford and Janus Henderson. Both speakers delivered presentations followed by Q&A sessions open to the online audience.

The Bombora team managed the whole process from start to finish. An email promotional campaign included sourcing young and upcoming wealth managers across the UK; sending branded invites and reminders; and managing the registration process. Prior to the event, the team carried out technical tests with the speakers to check audio and visual quality. During the event, Bombora provided technical support for the speakers and online audience. The team also managed the Q&A sessions. The webinar was branded throughout, in line with the Subthirtyfive brand guidelines. Post broadcast an on-demand version was produced for the website and the sponsors were provided with performance analytic results.


Bombora has enabled Subthirtyfive to successfully make the transition from live physical events to virtual events. The transition was seamlessly managed by the Bombora team and has given Subthirtyfive the opportunity to thrive online throughout the pandemic. Looking forward, they are now able to take advantage of the benefits of virtual events as well as hybrid and live events in the future.

The first online event was a resounding success. Over two-thirds of the registrants attended on the day and the feedback was positive from sponsors, speakers and attendees alike. “Just wanted to say I really enjoyed today’s event,” was one such comment from Annabel​ Brodie‑Smith, Communications Director at The AIC.

Subthirtyfive is a growing initiative and its popularity has sparked the interest of more potential investment sponsors. The Bombora team and Subthirtyfive have already started planning for the next virtual event plus a hybrid event scheduled for later in the year.
