  • Tips For Presenting A Webinar

Webinar audiences are hidden from view. Where CEOs, teachers and business mentors may be comfortable speaking in front of a live audience, the experience of presenting to camera is unique. It pays therefore, to consider how to engage with the viewers in a webinar session.

    Webinar Tips

Here are some tips to ensure your webinar presentation runs smoothly.

    Prepare And Practice

It sounds obvious but good preparation is something not to be underestimated.

When you have selected your set-up and script, practice the delivery of your presentation with someone you are comfortable with. Some people find it advantageous to present to a mirror.  It would be worthwhile timing the length of the presentation to make sure it isn’t too long.

If you are using an autocue, make sure you dictate the pace of your speaking and visualise the camera is a person you are talking to.

Have someone ask you questions afterwards so you can see how you respond. Remember to smile – look enthusiastic, be animated and enjoy it! Don’t be afraid to express yourself with your hands.

    Consider The Visual Elements

It’s important to deliver all the correct elements such as your logos and graphics to your producer a month in advance of the live webinar to ensure that it can be customised to your branding during the presentation.

Think about how the background will look and if it aligns to the branding or theme of your company. At the beginning of the webinar, the producer can create an introduction clip along with a music score as a lead in to the speaker – this is known as the ‘sting’. Further to this, the producer can create your name and title in what is called ‘the lower third’ in fonts and colours that are suitable.

The more thought you put into your webinar’s look through the design process, the more professional it will appear.

Check You Are Happy Before You Go Live

Sometimes things don’t go completely to plan on the day or mistakes are made. Our advice is – don’t panic – keep calm and carry on! Most people understand that ‘live’ might mean a hiccup or two but it doesn’t necessarily detract from the whole presentation.  You should also consider how to tackle challenging questions and have a response for those questions that you cannot answer straight away.

With the guidance of your producer the webinar can run smoothly and deliver the messages you intend to your viewers.
