  • The Do’s and Don’ts Of Presenting A Webinar

The webinar is a tried and tested format so the team at Bombora know what works and what doesn’t work when putting a webinar presentation together. Here’s a useful checklist we have put together for you, to make sure your webinar is as good as it can be.

    The Do's And Dont's OF A Webinar

    Do…

    Send out reminders

We find that sending out reminder emails 1 week before, a day before and an hour before your webinar is effective. Don’t forget to get in touch with your audience after your webinar.

    Prepare

Practice your presentation until you are confident with your delivery. Sometimes two or more presenters will agree to present together so make a point of meeting anyone you might be presenting with on the day. You need to work out how you fit together in the flow of the presentation and work out your on screen rapport. If you don’t, it might be awkward and confusing on the day – for your audience too!

    Be early

Arrive at least an hour before a live webinar. Bombora has a green room to film in but also a room to relax in and prepare. Many people who arrange webinars have busy schedules and turn up close to broadcasting time but we would urge you to plan in an extra hour before hand to make sure you are prepped and relaxed.

    Use graphics

Use more colour and graphics than text on slides. Your goal is to communicate well and the beauty of the webinar is that you have extra opportunities to use graphics, imagery and diagrams to good effect. Forward planning with this in mind can make a really memorable and engaging webinar.

    Drink room temperature water

This is a proven method to help your voice whilst presenting, so keep some in reach during the webinar.

    Dress appropriately

A microphone needs to be attached to your clothing (such as a lapel). If possible, refrain from wearing jewellery.

    The Don’ts

    Don’t…

Wear the wrong kind of clothes

Avoid wearing green in a green screen studio as the green will turn you invisible on screen. Also do not wear complicated patterns, stripes or shiny material.

    Run over your allocated time

It’s easy to overrun without planning, so make sure you leave 10-15 minutes for questions.

    Forget to wear makeup

Studios can be hot and bright places so makeup can hide reflections on the skin. Also the lighting and camera can flatten your features so makeup can bring them out to look more natural.

    Bore your audience

Ask yourself – would you be entertained and engaged if you watched yourself talk – you can practice in the mirror to see what you look like. You must try to show passion, energy and enthusiasm in any way you can. Use your hands and find ways of saying things that grab your audience’s attention.
