  • How is Artificial Intelligence Changing Content Marketing?

It’s been predicted that AI use will grow by 53% over the next two years and businesses are already rushing to invest in AI-based tools. This will change content marketing forever, it will become more predictive, more personalised, and so much more productive.

AI can create, analyse, solve, and ‘learn’ faster and more efficiently than any human. By the time we’ve got to work, grabbed a coffee and logged on, AI has done the job (and so much more). Time to get our coats then? Not just yet. If AI can give us the opportunity to reach our goals faster and make our jobs easier, it’s worth sticking around. Plus, it will change our jobs, eliminating the simple tasks and giving us time to concentrate on the interesting stuff (hopefully).

Over the past 10 years, marketing automation has been key to personalising marketing programs. And it’s worked a treat, but let’s be honest, it’s not really automated; it requires us, humans, to set it up and manage it continuously. In basic terms, it doesn’t understand what the content is about and who should read it. AI does. Tools like chatbots, data analysis algorithms, and personalised recommendation systems can automatically direct audiences to content that’s uniquely relevant to them, creating a more dynamic, personalised user experience.

Messaging apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Slack are popular with brands looking to communicate with customers quickly and efficiently. And AI chatbots make it even easier to do just that; they offer on the spot help, improving that ever-important ‘personal’ customer experience. And there are now several AI solutions that can help to make your content more predictive and personalised. One example is OneSpot, a content marketing platform that uses machine learning algorithms and website interaction data to match content to individual user preferences. Another is Boomtrain, a ‘personalised notification platform’ that finds the content you already have that is most likely to engage users and encourage clicks, engagements and revenue generation.

Another surefire way to keep customers happy is to inspire them with relevant recommendations. Amazon and Netflix are experts at this. In fact, the Netflix Tech Blog says 75% of what people watch on Netflix is from an algorithm-generated recommendation. How? By using predictive marketing. Success depends on your ability to deliver the right content, to the right people, at the right time. That’s where machine learning comes in. This is the subset of AI that allows computers to learn without being programmed. Machine learning software such as Seldon is now available, as is software with prepackaged recommendation engines like Apptus, Clerk, or RichRelevance.

The Associated Press already uses machine-generated content to increase the volume and speed at which they release information. Journalist robots can create content at a rate of 2,000 pieces per second. And experts predict that by 2022, half of all content will be developed by machines; humans will just oversee and edit. Today, content creators can use tools like World AI, Automated Insight’s Wordsmith and Narrative Science to complete writing tasks. How? By using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Natural Language Generation (NLG) technologies. NLP uses algorithms to ‘read’ your content, transforming writing into data, which it can then understand. A good example is Grammarly which can read content and give recommendations to improve it. NLG actually writes the content. It can take a spreadsheet of data and turn it into a written story. For example, Automated Insights can write reports based on spreadsheets of data.

There’s no doubt about it, AI technology is set to transform content marketing. It will become more productive, more predictive and more personalised. Don’t get left behind.
